Nightwing #1 (1995) written by Dennis O'Neil, with art by Greg Land (pencils) Mike Seller (inks) and Cathi Bertrand is a very intriguing read. Titled 'The Resignation' the first scenes are Dick, in what he has decided, is his final fight. Some of the poses in these scenes are really dynamic, and the panels that intercut the fight sequences with a close up of Batman, are a great way to express that Bruce is closely watching. With Bruce and Dick's relationship being one of my favourites in comics, I really appreciate the conversation the two have after the fight, with Dick's feelings coming through strongly. He feels inadequate as a hero in comparison to Bruce, with these feelings heightened during Dick's short recent run as Batman. I also love Bruce's characterisation in this scene, with him listening intently, and even trying to convince Dick that he is in worthy as a hero. But Dick's got his mind made up. However, after going through some documents related to his parent's deaths, given to him by Alfred, he finds a clue that could once and for all prove that Zucco was responsible. He insists that he must investigate this, which one would assume would lead him into a adventure that will ultimately have him jump back into being Nightwing. We get a short, but effective introduction to the villains of the story, and an ending that will seemingly roll into the next issue.

Some other notes I have, is while reading the letters section, I learnt that one point, Nightwing fans referred to themselves as 'Wingnuts', which I can't decide if thats that worst or best darn name ever. Also I know it was the 90's, but man, some of Dick's fashion choices....(also, mullet)

Mate, I love you but, what are you doing?

In conclusion:
This proves to be a very interesting read, and the series might give us some more insight to Dick's past. And Dick's fashion sense might be the death of me

Tune in next Saturday for Issue 2!
