I love this series. Seriously one of my favourite new series. Like Teen Titans, I binged read (not that there was a lot :)) the previous issues while I was away, had to do something to entertain me on the aeroplane. `This series was kind of a wildcard for me, I had no idea what it was about, just saw issue 3 on the DC app and decided to give the series a shot. No regrets. So full of the supernatural and so full of mystery, which is a genre I don't delve into very often, if at all. Not since my Nancy Drew and The Babysitters Club Mysteries days. The main characters in this series are amazing. Olive Silverlock is a sophomore with a secret and Maps is an adorable ball of energy. Maps is so great. I just really love Maps ok!. The comic is really well written (Becky Cloonan and Brenden Fletcher) and I'm just know one day I'm going to reread it after big reveals, seeing all the clues I've missed (then feel really foolish for not seeing it!). Is the North Hall really haunted? What happened to Olive last Summer? What's Millie Jane Cobblepot got to do with anything? So many questions, and like all good mysteries, at this point, not a lot of answers. Did I mention how great Karl Kerschl's art is? It's so cute and all around aesthetically pleasing to look at. It has a certain charm to it, and has a look of a animated cartoon. I love it a lot. The colouaring by Msassyk and Serge LaPointe complements it well. This particular issue we do get some answers, but also more questions. The secret of the ghost is revealed (or is it?), the mysterious blonde gets a name, and Olive and Pomeline some what bonding. This issue is very enjoyable, and obviously, if you're already reading the series, I recommend continuing. Haven't started yet? DO IT!!! Spoilers under the cut.
So, I'm not really sure where I stand on the "Is Headmaster Hammer good or bad?" question, I just find him generally creepy. I do think he knows a lot more than he lets on. I feel it is obvious he is hiding something, and for whatever reason, I believe he wants Olive to figure it out. He's full of secrets! He probably knows about Olive, and maybe even more that Olive herself knows. I don't know, I'm just having fun digging through all the secrets and lies, and coming up with crackpot theories.
I'm somewhat curious about Bruce's involvement in all this. He hasn't appeared a lot in the series, but I feel he plays a part in everything, especially since he's given Olive a scholarship. I wonder if Olive knows his secret?
I wish I had a theory what that symbol is. But I don't. It's going to play a major part in the series I know that for sure. Maybe some of you more experienced comic readers can help me out here. Has it appeared in other series before?
I actually kind of think it is sweet that Pomeline's friends went to all that effort to create a fake ghost. They worried for their friend and just want to help. Maybe the way they went about it wasn't exactly the best way, but at least it wasn't some cruel prank or anything.
Of course, this issue would end on a cliff hanger! I don't exactly know who the character at the end of the issue is, but I am very interested in their connection to Olive and her mother. Only time will tell. Excitingly waiting for the next issue!!!
